Jesus and his friends stop in Bethany to visit Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42.

Oftentimes we hear people say “don’t be a Martha” in reference to this classic Bible story. But it’s easy to sympathize with Martha, who was working hard to serve her guests while Mary sat and listened to Jesus. Yet, Jesus tells Martha that Mary was right in choosing her Lord over worrying about food and comfort. Her intentions were good but she was focused on the wrong thing—not her Savior.
