David Doyle has authored almost 100 books for Squadron-Signal Publications, in several series, ranging from 504-page tomes down to 48-page volumes. These works are divided into several series.
The finest of these are the Historical Reference series books. This short-lived series featured detailed, authoritative histories on various subjects, assembled using primary source material. All the books in this series were written by David.
The In Action series consists of 48 to 88 pages of vintage color and black and white photographs and a concise text concerning the development and deployment of specific military equipment.
Walk Around books consists of 72 to 88 pages of primarily color photographs and a concise text describing some of the finest preserved examples of military equipment existent. On Deck books are the same type of book, but deal with naval subjects.
Also dealing with nautical subjects is the Squadron At Sea series, which are 104 to 160-page books that chronicles the life of various warships from keel-laying to final disposition, be that preservation, scrapping or loss in combat. All the books in this series were written by David.
Detail in Action books combine elements of both In Action and Walk Around books. These 80 to 88 page books containing both color and black and white photos, some taken during wartime and others of preserved equipment, and a concise text describing the development, deployment and operation of the vehicles.
Squadron suspended publishing operations in January 2021, and had not published any new titles for some time prior to that. Under new ownership, the Squadron-Signal line was relaunched in May 2022.
About the listings
After having received numerous requests for an all-time listing of ALL Squadron, to aid collectors we have attempted to display on via this page the covers and numbers of all the books that Squadron/Signal published through the years. This list is in excess of 400 books. Clicking on the button below takes you to the list. Some of the covers are hot links to titles which we have in stock (which are several), but we do not have every title in stock - and we DO have some in stock that are not linked. The sure fire way to know if we have a title in stock is to browse our subject pages (British Aircraft, US military vehicles, etc.).
