Panzer IV, Ausf. A-J – Technical and Operational History Vol.1

$210.00

This is the first of a 3 volume series to be published and available for purchase later this year.

The Pz.Kpfw. IV (Panzerkampfwagen IV or Panzer IV) medium tank was in combat action from the first day of World War II to the last. The workhorse of the German Panzerwaffe was the most widely produced German tank. Remaining in the shadow of the Tiger and Panther tank designs and not standing out too much visually, it was nevertheless the basic vehicle for the Heer and Waffen SS armored units. Its design and production in the German arms industry, which was increasingly exposed to air attacks, were much simpler than the Tiger or the Panther. From the beginning of production, it was armed with a short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK vL/24 gun. The beginning of the fighting against the Soviet Union in 1941 and the first clashes with an increasing number of Soviet T-34s and KVs demonstrated the weakness of the Pz.Kpfw. IV’s short-barreled gun in the fight against these enemy tanks. The Pz.Kpfw. IV was re-equipped with a long-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 gun and finally with the 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48. During the production, many modernizations were carried out; above all, the armor was constantly increased. However, it was practically still insufficient. Built on the chassis and other components of the Pz.Kpfw. IV were various types of anti-aircraft tanks, the Nashorn tank destroyer, the Hummel self-propelled howitzer and the StuG. IV.

This 3-volume set will present all versions of the Pz.Kpfw. IV, including prototypes and special vehicles. Combat operations in selected units will also be described.

Each volume will comprise of approximately 848 pages (64 in color). The entire set will be supplemented by many color profiles and include approximately 2,000 photos, and 1,000 2D and 3D drawings in 1:35 and 1:16 scale.
